Little crake (female). Greek: μικρoπoυλάδα (θηλική). Pera River, Afandou, April 2022.
Rare passage migrant. Length 18-20 cm, wingspan 34-39 cm. Sexes similar, male with plain blue-grey face and underparts, female with grey face and buff underparts. Distinctive green bill with reddish base, red eyes, sturdy green legs with long toes, long wings. River mouths with extensive reed beds. Forages by probing with bill in mud, picking up food by sight, takes aquatic animals, insects. Very secretive, rarely seen.
