Sardinian warbler (male). Greek: μαυρoτσιρoβάκoς (αρσενικός). Fokia, Pefki, April 2023.
Breeding migrant, common and widespread. April to November. Length 13-15 cm, wingspan 18-20 cm. Sexes similar, female with grey-brown back. Open areas with shrubs, parks, gardens. Feeds on insects, larvae, berries. Builds grass nest in bushes low above ground. Sings on bush tops and in display flight. Territorial male behaviour. Very secretive when not breeding. Fast erratic flight low over ground. Fast-paced melodious warble with some scratchy notes.
