Serinus serinus
European serin (male). Greek: σκαρθάκι (αρσενικό). Apolakia, June 2003.
Resident, uncommon. Length 11-12 cm, wingspan 20-23 cm. Sexes similar, duller colouring with heavier streaking in females. Forest edges, olive groves, farmland, hillsides. Forages on ground, feeds on seeds, buds, insects. Nests in trees, bushes. Sings from perch and in flight, rapid song with chirping and trilling phrases.
