Cyanistes caeruleus calamensis

Resident, few pairs. Distribution of subspecies 'calamensis' restricted to the Peloponnese, Cyclades, Crete and Rhodes. Length 11-12 cm, wingspan 17-20 cm. Sexes similar. Deciduous forests, parks, gardens. Very agile, often hangs upside down when foraging in trees. Feeds on insects, seeds, valuable destroyer of plant pests. Nests in tree holes. Characteristic high-pitch song, two short notes followed by a vibrating whistling stream.
