Small number of resident pairs in Aegean region. Length 60-75 cm, wingspan 150-180 cm. Sexes similar. Powerful flier with shallow wing beats, long glides. Very powerful and agile hunter, can take large prey (herons, foxes), but feeds mostly on rabbits and partridges. Launches attacks from tree cover. Hunts in pairs and takes prey mostly on ground. Nests on steep cliffs, often in coastal areas. Territorial behaviour over dozens of square kilometres. Juveniles disperse when achieving feeding independence.
