Relatively wide distribution, but infrequent occurrence and in small numbers, often singles. Rhodes population classified as subspecies 'fiorii.' Wingspan 55-70 mm. Characteristic angled wing shape reflected in Greek family name, but hind wing much less angled in fiorii. Overall greenish primrose yellow with large wash of orange on upper side of forewings (visible in flight) in males. Colour and prominent venation of hind wings provide camouflage by resembling leaves. Flies January to November in one generation, but second brood in summer likely. Hibernation and intermittent estivation allow individuals to live up to ten months. Diverse open habitats, including parks and gardens, also forest edges. Wings always closed when settled. Feeds on nectar from wide variety of sources including some plants ignored by most butterfly species, such as bougainvillea and caper bush. Fast flyer with strong roaming drive.
