Sparsely distributed in small numbers in central and northern areas. Wingspan 30-35 mm. Sexes similar, black border on upper side of wings much broader in females. Flies January to October in at least two generations. Open spaces always near shrubs or trees, forest roads. Takes salts from damp earth in early hours. Sips aphid honeydew from leaves. Flies high around trees. Settles with closed wings, but opens wings in overcast weather. Long spells of resting on shrub leaves. Roaming behaviour.
